Iraniken community fumes over Ogun monarch’s land grabber appellation

The Iraniken community members in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State has warned the Ewusi of Makun community, Oba Timothy Akinsanya, to stop accusing their monarch, the Oniranikin of Iraniken, Oba Adewale Adeniji, of being a land grabber.

There is a six-month old dispute between Makun and Iraniken communities over a family’s disputed land at Oke-rala village via Simawa in the Sagamu LGA.

The Aremo-Oba-elect of the Iraniken community, Bolanle Akinyemi, during a press briefing on Saturday disclosed that the disputed land belonged to the Oso-Edu family, to which Oba Adeniji belongs.

Oba Akinsanya had threatened to lead a protest and block major roads in the Sagamu area of the state if the government failed to come to aid of Makun against some “suspected land grabbers.”

But Akinyemi said, “They have accused Oba Oniraniken of being a land grabber. The court has proclaimed that the land belongs to the family of Oba Oniraniken. The land is a family land not a communal land. So, any other party who is interested in that land is the one that is trying to grab what does not belong to him.

“Instead of the Makun people appealing, they are shamelessly using the police against Oba Oniraniken.”

He added, “If they don’t desist from accusing him as a land grabber, the Iraniken people will come together and will take them up legally. This cannot be allowed to go more than this.”
