A Lagos Federal High Court has ordered the remand of three men popularly known as ‘Akala Boys’ for allegedly dealing in 803 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, otherwise called Marijuana unlawfully.

The suspects are Jelili Kamoru, Sodiq Oduola and Adebayo Seun.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke ordered their remand following their arraignment by the men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The trio were arraigned on separate charges by the agency for allegedly dealing in 802.5 kilograms of cannabis sativa.

The prosecutor, Mr. Jerry Aernan told the court that defendants and others now at large, on October 15, 2021 at Akala, Mushin, LGA of Lagos State, conspired among themselves and unlawfully dealt in 803 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, popularly called Indian Hemps.

He said their offences are contrary to and punishable under section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Following their plea of not guilty, the prosecutor asked the court for a trial date, and also asked the court to remand the defendants in the custody of Nigeria Correctional Service till the determination of the charges against them.

However, counsel to the defendant, Mr. Uche Okoronkwo told the court that he has a pending motion for bail for the defendants. He prayed the court to allow him to move the application.

With the permission of the court, Okoronkwo moved the application for the bail of his clients.

Justice Aneke after listening to parties adjourned the ruling to November 29, 2021.

The judge also ordered the three defendants to be remanded in the custody of Ikoyi Correction Service.
