The Lagos State Government has sensitised the 57 local governments and local council development areas in the state on the Lagos Resilience Strategy.
The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Sam Egube, at a workshop on Wednesday said it was important to imbibe the resilience culture in anticipating, mitigating and responding to the challenges confronting local communities.
The workshop was titled, ‘Imbibing Resilience Culture in Local Government.’
“The initiatives in the strategy address infrastructure development, public transportation, waste management, human capital, disaster management and health.
“The development of the Lagos Resilience Strategy became imperative because of the need to prepare the state for the challenges associated with rapid urbanisation and exponential population growth with a view to transforming those challenges into greater opportunities for a better quality of life for our people, and ensure judicious use of government’s meagre resources,” he said.
The Chief Resilience Officer, Dr Folayinka Dania, explained that the workshop would help participants to know the importance of resilience, its institution in governance and the role of the Local Governments in implementing the Lagos State Resilience Strategy.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, MEPB, Mrs Liadi Abiola, said, “It is our belief that efficient implementation of the strategy will enable us to build a greater Lagos of our collective dreams; a state that is safe, sustainable and inclusive.”
