The Lagos State Government has said it will expand the drain across the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to ensure the flow of rainwater and prevent flooding.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tunji Bello, said this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said, “Following the flash flood which ravaged the Ahmadiyyah and Ijaiye ends of the Lagos Abeokuta Expressway on Sunday, the ongoing expansion of the drainage culvert across the Lagos Abeokuta Expressway at that section will be completed.
“The ongoing road rehabilitation works being done by Julius Berger Nigeria Limited for the Federal Government involves the necessary expansion of the old culvert underneath the expressway which was inadequate to contain stormwater runoff from the catchment. The expansion will ensure that rainwater flows freely and easily into the collector drain at downstream of the culvert.”
Bello added that the state was also putting in efforts to curb flooding along Akowonjo road.
