The Lagos State Government says the construction of a drainage channel on Acme Road, Ikeja, will commence in December to address the challenge of perennial flooding in the area.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, in a statement on Saturday, said the construction would cut across Metal Box Road to discharge flood water affecting Oba Ogunnusi Road into System 1 (Odo Iya Alaro), Vori Close.
Bello said the work would start in the first week of December, adding that the contractor handling the project had concluded the preliminary work.
The statement read in part, “Flooding of Oba Ogunnusi has been a recurring problem within the Ikeja Local Government Area of the state for quite a while.
“The state government had constructed several drainage channels in the area such as the conduct drainage along Wemco Road that discharges into Agidingbi gorge and the drain along Metal Box/Acme Road that discharges into Awolowo way gorge.
“The need to finally address the flooding challenge at Oba Ogunnusi Road and its effect on residents and motorists after several palliative measures led to the award of the new contract for the construction of a parallel channel along Acme Road to take off excess water from Oba Ogunnusi Road.”
