Don’t cause problem, chiefs tells Lagos Govt to install late Oworonshoki’s son as monarch

Some chiefs of Oworonshoki kingdom in the Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State have expressed their wish for the late monarch of the community, Oba Bashiru Saliu, to be succeeded on the stool by his son, Nurudeen.

According to them, it was the wish of the late monarch that his son, Nurudeen, would succeed him.

The chiefs, therefore, appealed to the state government to enthrone Nurudeen as the next Oloworo of Oworonshoki in fulfilmemt of his late father’s wish.

They said they wanted the wish of the late monarch to be respected because he was the first traditional ruler of the community.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference, the Bashorun of Oworo kingdom, Chief Jelili Lawal, said, “We have three families entitled to the throne in Oworonshoki kingdom; they are Elebo, Jegede and Kajola family and it is an incontrovertible fact that the late Oba Bashiru Oloruntoyin Saliu was the first to be crowned as king here.

“His reign was a peaceful one and prosperity had since been here with us; we felt the need to respect his wishes that his son, Prince Nurudeen Olalekan Saliu, be made the next Oloworo so that we may continue to enjoy it.

“Plans have been concluded for the Oloworo-elect as permissible in the customs of the land that he be installed and crowned the new Oloworo.”

Also speaking, the Iyalode of Oworo, Chief Mrs Muyunat Agbabiaka, said, “The late Oloworo treated everyone of us as his children. We should all support and uphold his words.

“Oba Olohuntoyin had endorsed and presented Nurudeen Olalekan as the next Oloworo, long before his death.”

According to the Iyalode, turning deaf ears to the late monarch’s may spell trouble for the kingdom.

Similarly, the Ajaguna of Kosofe, Chief Taiwo Lookman, said the prince had the blessings of all the customary chiefs and residents in Oworo.

He said, “The voice of man is the voice of God, the deceased Oloworo had endorsed Nurudeen during his lifetime as the heir to the throne.”

Also, an Islamic cleric, Aruna Ishola, said Muslims and Christians would join traditionalists to ensure the successful installation of the prince to succeed his late father.
