Gov. Sanwo-Olu restates commitment to nature conservation

The Lagos State Government has said it is committed to championing the cause of nature conservation for promoting sustainable environmental management in the state.

The Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said this during the 2021 Annual Walk for Nature organised by Lagos State Government and Nigeria Conservation Foundation, according to a statement.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Drainage and Water Resources, Joe Igbokwe, said the introduction of biodiversity laws would help protect and better manage wetland systems and biodiversity generally in the state.

According to him, biodiversity has to do with all varieties of life including their interactions with each other and the environment.

He said human activities over the past few centuries had not only impacted the earth but had altered the course of nature via over-exploitation of other life forms and pollution.

The Chairman, Executive Council Nigerian Conservation Foundation, Chief Ede Dafinone, said, “Biodiversity is the bedrock of human existence.”

He called on everyone to live in partnership with nature.

He urged Lagosians to show love to themselves by caring for the environment, adding that the Lagos State Government and NCF would continue to propagate the message of environmental sustainability to the grassroots.
