The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said his administration will curb building collapse incidents in the state.
The governor said this on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation by the Lagos State Building Control Agency in Alausa, Ikeja.
Sanwo-Olu said, “This is a game changer in building control strategies as it portrays us a government that thinks ahead, as well as concerned about the safety of lives and property of the citizens.
“This development is partly as a result of the continuous monitoring by officials of the agency to ensure standard in the construction of buildings, as well as the establishment of more district offices that has widened the scope and coverage of the activities of the agency even to hinterlands.”
Sanwo-Olu added that the certificate would ensure that structures were built according to guidelines and could serve as collateral for loan facilities.
The General Manager, LASBCA, Mr Gbolahan Oki, said, “The core mandate of LASBCA demands that we act in the interest of the public at all times to prevent needless loss of human lives and save valuable properties.”
