The Enugu State Police Command on Wednesday said it arrested a 35-year-old man, Shuaibu Mohammed, for allegedly stabbing to death a bricklayer, identified only as Temple, at the Akpuoga-Nike Layout, Emene, in the Enugu East council area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement, said the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Enugu Metro Area Command in collaboration with personnel of the Emene Neighbourhood Watch Group on October 3, 2021 around 11.15am.
Ndukwe disclosed that a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, a native of the Wase LGA of Plateau State, who resided and worked as a security guard at the Obinagu Chinwude New Layout, Emene, “vengefully attacked the victim for allegedly being part of those who caught, beat up, warned and released him for stealing.”
He said, “Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, has ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to ensure timely conclusion of investigation and prosecution of the suspect.”
The police spokesman said the victim was taken to a hospital where he was confirmed dead by doctors on duty, adding that the corpse had been deposited in a mortuary for an autopsy pending the conclusion of investigation.
