The officials of the Ondo State Waste Management Authority, on Monday, sealed off the ShopRite complex along Igbatoro road in Akure, the state capital and the NEPA Neighbourhood market, also in Akure for violating environmental law.
The development came barely a week after four commercial buildings were sealed by the government for a similar offence.
The General Manager of the authority, Mrs Ayo Adeyemo, who confirmed the development said the affected buildings were penalised for running foul of sanitation rules of the state.
According to her, indiscriminate dumping of waste has been identified as the fundamental problem facing sanitation in the capital city. To this end, she declared that violators would not go unpunished.
She said, ” Surveillance has been set up to arrest and prosecute erring members of the public.” She however enjoined residents to complement the efforts of the government in protecting the environment against indiscriminate disposal of waste.
