NGO decries abuse of female suspects by policemen

A non-governmental organisation, Monsurat Ajoke Foundation (MAF), has decried the abuse of female suspects undergoing investigation at the hands of police officers.

This was disclosed by the President of the Foundation, Ibraheem Monsurat Ajoke. She stated this yesterday after an interactive session with some female inmates of the Ilesha Correctional Centre, Osun State, where the Foundation went to distribute some food items.

According to her, after interacting with the female inmates, the team discovered that many of the cases that brought them to the facility were aggravated due to the activities of the Investigating Police Officers (IPOs), who for one reason or the other, allegedly padded the case files of the inmates, and some going as far as sleeping with the female inmates, while still in their custody.

“In lieu of these ugly discoveries, MAF is imploring men of the Nigeria Police Force to have the fear of God and put humanity first in the discharge of their duties,” she said.

In their separate admonitions, the MAF founder, Ajoke; patron, Olori Agbaekun of Obadimu, Chief (Mrs.) Opajimi Oluwasegun Atinuke and Welfare Director of the foundation, Mr. Adetunji Akanbi Alatata, urged the female inmates to see God as the only one that could get them out of where they are, as well as see the correctional centre as a place to retrace their steps and turn a new leaf.
