Hundreds of businessmen operating along Airport road in Yola, Adamawa State, suffered huge losses, yesterday, as a tanker laden with petroleum products exploded and burnt a shopping complex along the road.
The explosion caused traffic gridlock from the early hours of yesterday. When our reporter visited the scene, firefighters from different organisations were battling to put off the inferno.
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) told The Guardian that the exploded tanker belonged to Conoil. The Technical Assistant, DPR, Yola office, Anthony Banyawa, said the tanker was cleared from Yola depot last Thursday, but was waiting for the filling station to discharge the underground products before it would take the products to the filling station.
No life was lost from the explosion.
