The Managing Director, Sabre Works Real Estate Investment Limited, Segun Phillips, has called for the revision of the Land Use Act.
Phillips also asked the government to provide an enabling environment for businesses especially in the real estate industry to thrive.
Phillips made the call in an interview with journalists while unveiling brand ambassadors for his company.
He said, “I think we need to review the Land Use Act. It is making it difficult to have speedy development. But when you give a locality a chance to say this is ours, go and pay to the federal or states. It is yours but you need to pay rent. That would help people to have the consciousness to develop it faster.
“But when you allocate it to yourself as it is done in Nigeria; when you are putting an act or law, you are ensuring it becomes usable to the general populace.
“I disagree with the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on housing deficit. There is a huge housing deficit for low and middle-income earners, who have consistently wanted to have houses of their own. For the high end, there seems to be housing for them. We need public-private partnership to develop the real estate industry.”
