Chevron Nigeria Limited has said it invested $908m in Nigerian Content in 2020.

The company said in its 2020 corporate responsibility report that of this amount, expenditure on materials and services obtained from local community contractors was about $267m.

The report said the company also partnered with many indigenous companies to build and strengthen local capacity and capabilities during the execution of major capital and small projects.

According to the CNL, for the Escravos Export System Project, the local contractors engaged are Deltatek Offshore Limited, Fenog Nigeria Limited, and Gramen Petroserve Nigeria Limited.

It said for the repairs and upgrade of tanks, some of the contractors involved in the project were Baywood Continental Limited, Esthon Nigeria Limited, Homik Nigeria Limited, Hopic Nigeria Limited, and De-Movick Nigeria Limited.

The report said, “Chevron Nigeria remains a top supplier-of on-spec gas into the Nigerian domestic market. “Chevron supplies 40 per cent of the Nigerian natural gas market for power and is also the largest shareholder in the West African Gas Pipeline, a 678-km pipeline that supplies gas to Benin, Togo and Ghana, as part of a broader initiative to develop the energy sector in the region.

“CNL’s gas strategy is to end routine gas flaring, support NNPC/CNL JV’s Domestic Gas Supply Obligation and the Nigerian Gas Master Plan.

“In 2020, Chevron Nigeria continued to monetise recoverable natural gas resources of approximately 17 trillion cubic feet in the Escravos area through a combination of domestic and export sales and use as fuel in company operations.”

It said net daily production in 2020 averaged 12,000 barrels of gas liquids and 88 million cubic feet of gas.

The report added, “The Escravos Gas Project gas gathering, and processing facilities place CNL as one of the pioneers in creating a practical and economic solution for gas flaring in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.

“Chevron Nigeria continues with its efforts to monetise recoverable natural gas resources in the Escravos area.

“It utilises the gas to fuel the company’s operations, while supplying the product to the domestic and international market. CNL supplies a significant percentage of Nigeria’s domestic gas supply volumes.”

It said through investments in the gathering and processing of associated gas, the company had reduced routine gas flaring in its operations by over 95 per cent in the last 10 years.
