Ebonyi State government has warned secondary school principals in the state to sit up in the discharge of their duties or face demotion to ordinary classroom teachers.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Dr. Obianuju Aloh, while giving the warning in Abakaliki, yesterday, during a meeting with principals of senior secondary schools in the state, urged them to do their job with passion to achieve good results.
According to the governor’s aide, despite that public schools have qualified teachers, some of the teachers are not proactive in the discharge of their duties, because of lack of supervision by principals.
She disclosed that her office would organise a workshop for the principals before schools resumption for the first term of 2021/2022 academic session.
Aloh stated that her objective was to ensure quality education through a well-structured school management and supervision. She told the teachers to prepare lesson notes ahead of school resumption, so that effective teaching and learning would commence as soon as they resume for the first term.
Responding, the Principal of Community Secondary School, Isu, Mr. Omo Obini, expressed joy for the laudable educational policies of the Governor David Umahi-led government in Ebonyi, promising that all of them would be dutiful to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government.
He, however, appealed to the Senior Special Assistant to post more teachers to schools in the rural areas, describing her coming on board as a welcome development.
The meeting was well-attended by principals of senior secondary schools across the state and other critical stakeholders in the education sector.
