Stop taking govt to court over kingship tussles, Fayemi tells royal families
Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has urged the royal families in all the towns in the state to exercise restraint in dragging government to court over kingship tussles.
Fayemi said such tendencies often breed bad blood and acrimony, which stunts the development of the towns.
The governor, who condemned the rampant act of stalling the installation of traditional rulers due to lingering litigations by aggrieved parties, said he would henceforth enforce the State Regency Law, which stipulates that no royal vacancy should be allowed to drag beyond two years without successor.
Fayemi stated this in Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, during the inauguration of the Ekiti Council of Traditional Rulers 2021-2023 to be chaired by the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti, Oba Gabriel Ayodele Adejuwon.
In his response, Oba Adejuwon assured the governor that the council would partner with the government to move the state forward, while also pledging to maintain cohesion in the hitherto disjointed council.
MEANWHILE, the state government has approved N7.6 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the state.
The decision was taken, yesterday, at the weekly meeting of the State Executive Council held at the Council Chambers.
In a statement, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Akin Omole, the breakdown showed that N921,242,552.43 was approved for the construction of Ikole township roads while N4,322,511,502.70 was ratified for the construction of Ado/Iworoko Road and N2,329,440,507.94 is to be spent on the construction of bus terminals and pedestrian walkway/drain covers along Ijigbo Road to Okeiyinmi roundabout in the state capital.
The commissioner said that the contractors handling the roads had been given between 10 and 12 months to complete the projects.
The commissioner solicited the continued support of the people for government’s efforts at developing the state, stressing the need for patience and understanding of motorists and commuters during the period of the construction works.
