National President, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Akinloye Oyegbola, has expressed concern over incessant cases of building collapse across the country.

He spoke at the investiture of the Anambra State APBN Chairman, Dr Joachin Ulasi, yesterday, where he lamented that the ugly trend has become a source of worry to the body.

Represented by Publicity Secretary, Rawlings Ehumadu, he called for collaboration between government and relevant agencies to tackle the menace.

He said the problem has caused the Association sleepless nights. He also called on the state chapter to partner the Anambra State government to ensure appropriate policies are adopted to deliver good governance.

Oyegbola said: “Countless times, we’ve continued to issue statements targeted at nipping the menace in the bud. Even if it’s not eradicated completely, it can be reduced to the barest.

“Certification is required at every stage of construction. We call on government and other stakeholders to assist in ridding our societies of the menace.”

Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Chike Maduekwe, charged members to embrace standard ethics that will promote their image and integrity, even as he urged them to shun all forms of misconduct.

Maduekwe, who is also the Executive Chairman, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, said: “Do not get the body involved in unnecessary politicking. Be on the side of professionalism and best practices always.”

In his acceptance speech, Ulasi, promised to uphold professionalism through effective advocacy to drive the growth of the state.

He said the association would continue to collaborate with government and other relevant agencies, including the media, in achieving set goals and solving problems in the society.
