Chairman, Centre for Anti-corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL), Debo Adeniran, has said that corruption is responsible for the huge infrastructural gap in Lagos. According to him, if money meant for the state is spent on it, it would be a paradise.
Adeniran, who spoke, yesterday, at a consultative meeting organised by CACOL in collaboration with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), emphasised why participants must ensure that funds meant for their communities are not misappropriated.
He said it would take collective efforts and resolve to put an end to corruption, which is the reason citizens must ask critical questions from aspirants and candidates vying for elective posts as the general election is fast approaching.
Adeniran maintained that the people must be vigilant because anybody that gets into office through fraudulent means will support and perpetrate fraud while in office.
He, therefore, implored Nigerians not to lose hope about winning the war against corruption, saying: “We must not conclude that the war against corruption cannot be won, but be resolved to join others campaigning against corruption.
“More vulnerable and marginalised groups, including women-led groups, youth-led groups and individuals with disabilities should actively participate and demand for accountability and transparency in electoral processes to prevent corruption and violence throughout the elections processes.”
