Ambassador commends FCTA for rebuilding 2011 bombed UN building

Ten years after the United Nations building bombing in Abuja, the United Nations Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator to Nigeria, Ambassador Edward Kallon, has described the day as “a very sad day for members of the family.”

On August 21, 2011, a car filled with explosives was rammed into the UN building.

The then spokesperson of Boko Haram, Abu Kaka, claimed that the group was responsible for the attack.

However, Kallon said the resistance of the Federal Government against terrorism and the rehabilitation of the building have kept hope alive.

This was contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Anthony Ogunleye, on Wednesday.

Kallon and his team were said to have paid a courtesy visits to the minister.

The statement reads partly, “Ambassador Edward Kallon commended the Minister for facilitating the rehabilitation of the UN House after the 2011 attack.

“Kallon added that though it was a very sad day for the UN family, the defiance of the government of Nigeria against terrorism, as indicated in the investment made to rehabilitate the building, has kept hope alive.”

Speaking, the FCT minister said it was a sad event that could not be forgotten in a hurry.
