Kebbi Assembly Impeaches House Speaker, Deputy

The Speaker of Kebbi State House of Assembly, Honourable Sama’Ilah Abdulmuminu Kamba; and his Deputy, Muhammad Buhari-Alieru, were impeached by a two-thirds majority on Tuesday.

Clerk to the Assembly, Usman Ahmad Bunza, who stated this in a brief statement made available to journalists said, “The two House leaders were found to have committed impeachable offences, hence the reason to relieve them of their posts with immediate effect.”

The reasons for their impeachment was, however, not stated in the statement.

Bunza also announced that the duo of Honourable Muhammad Abubakar Lolo (APC-Bagudo West) and Honourable Usman Ankwai Zuru (APC- Zuru) had been elected as new Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the impeachment was announced by Chairman, House Committee on Information and Culture, Muhammad Tukur, shortly after a closed door plenary on Tuesday.

Tukur, who did not disclose the reason for the impeachment of the principal officers, said that 20 out of the 24-member Assembly attended the session.

“These included, the Chief Whip, the House Leader and the Deputy House Leader, among other 20 members,” the chairman said.
