THE Akwa Ibom State Government said it had appealed the garnishee order in the case filed by Bond Investment Holdings Limited at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory against It.
The state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, in a statement on Monday in Uyo, said the state Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom (SAN), had filed a suit in the Court of Appeal, Abuja, to oppose the grant of the Garnishee Order Absolute.
The statement titled, ‘Bond Investment Holdings Limited versus AKSG: The ruling and other matters’, indicated that with the joining of the issues in court in-depth discussion on the case might be subjudice
“Last month, the state government was notified of a garnishee order nisi made by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in a garnishee proceedings filed by Bond Investment Holdings Ltd against Akwa Ibom State.
“The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN, immediately caused processes to be filed in court to oppose the grant of a Garnishee Order Absolute.
“The judgment of the court upon which the garnishee order nisi was made had since been appealed, and the appeal entered at the Court of Appeal, Abuja.
“The facts of this matter emanate from a contract entered by the Government of Akwa Ibom State in 2010. With this, issues have been joined in court and therefore, in-depth discussion of the case may be subjudice.
“We can assure Akwa Ibom people that the government will always act in the best interest of the state in all circumstances,” the statement read in part.
However, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress had, in a statement last week demanded for an explanation as to why the state was “mired in this scandal-prone act with Bond Investment.
In a statement by it Publicity Secretary, Nkereuwem Enyongekere, titled, ‘Akwa Ibom Government, Globus Bank and a question of integrity’, the party alleged that Globus Bank, one of the bankers to the state government, had agreed to withhold a whopping N3, 500,000,000 held in the state’s account, pending the conclusion of garnishee proceedings initiated by Bond Investment Limited against the state over a N4.2bn judgement debt.
The statement added, “It is important for Governor Udom Emmanuel to come clean with Akwa Ibom people on his stakes in this bank and the relationship between the government and Bond Holdings and Investment Limited.”
The APC also described the state government’s statement on the garnishee order judgement as “flimsy and contextually empty.”
