Six suspects, including one accused of kidnapping a police officer in Adamawa State, have been arrested and brought before a court at the state capital, Yola.
The suspects include Sale Gambo, who is believed to have been the mastermind of the kidnap of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Mubi North Local Government Area, Ahijo Muhammed, sometime back.
Other accused persons arrested and charged to the Chief Magistrate Court 1, Jimeta, Yola, by the state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Adamu, for conspiracy and armed robbery are Abdullahi Ibrahim, Idris Musa and Abba Umar, while Mamman Sani and Muhammed Bala were arraigned for criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.
Sale Gambo is charged for allegedly abducting Ahijo Muhammed in November 2019 and demanding N10 million ransom, until the DPO was rescued by a taskforce of police and other security operatives after eight days with the abductors.
Giving the background of the cases, the First Information Report tendered by ASP Francis Audu, said it was reported to the police on the 19th November, 2019 that Sale Gambo who is a resident of Gembula village of Mubi North LGA abducted the DPO, took him to an unknown destination and demanded the N10 million ransom.
When the charge was read to him, the suspect denied committing the crime, and the court adjourned the matter to August 31, 2021 for further mention, and ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison till then.
The court also remanded Mamman Sani and Muhammadu Bala for allegedly kidnapping Umaru Baba and Musa Hassan at Gangtun village in Ganye LGA.
Mamman Sani and Muhammadu Bala, according to FIR read in court, stormed Cattle Range in Gambula village around 1:00am on the 20th May, 2021 with toy gun, cutlasses and sticks and beat up their victims, after which they abducted Musa Hassan and then demanded N4 million from the family, but were thereafter nabbed by security operatives.
The two denied the act, and the presiding judge adjourned the case to August 30, 2021.
Three others before the Yola court, Abdullahi Ibrahim, Idris Musa and Abba Umar, were charged with invading Wayam Hotel at Wauru Jabbe in Yola South on June 5, 2021, admitted to the charge of conspiracy and robbery levelled against them.
Following their admission of guilt, Magistrate Aliyu Bawuro adjourned the matter to August 30, 2021, for further mention and ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison.
