The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the October 10, 2020, governorship election in Ondo State, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, has declared that the last Supreme Court judgement, which favoured Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressive Congress, would not end the party in the state.
That the apex court dismissed the appeal of the PDP candidate and upheld the victory of Akeredolu as the winner of the October 20 governorship election but Jegede said rather than the party to be depressed as a result of that development, the judgement would spur it to work harder for the future elections.
Jegede, who spoke at the inauguration of a support group in the PDP, tagged ‘Opomulero’ in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday evening, said the party had a brighter future in the state.
He said, “After the Supreme Court judgement, some said it is over for us in the PDP but that is a lie, we didn’t allow that judgement to depress us we are waxing stronger.”
He urged members of the Opomulero Group to go back to their respective local governments to work harder to ensure that the party succeed in its future elections.
He said, “We still have a lot of work to do, we still have Senatorial election, House of Representatives election, House of Assembly election ahead of us in 2023. That is why we must be focused as work harder for these election. Opomulero Group is the number one PDP support group. This is not for Jegede alone, it is for all of us and together we shall succeed.”
In his remarks, the Director General of the group, Mr Olasupo Olakunori, said the group was ready to work and ensure that the PDP take back the South-West in future elections.
“We are ready and the work has begun to ensure that out great party the PDP , takes back it’s position in the South-West,” he declared.
