The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, has charged courts in the country to ensure the speedy and efficient delivery of justice.
Justice Muhammad stated that this would enhance the prevalence of peace and justice in Nigeria and retain the hope of Nigerians in the justice delivery system.
The CJN stated this during the virtual workshop for directors and inspectors of Area, Sharia, and Customary Courts in Nigeria.
He also emphasised the need for the courts to embrace justice that is free from unnecessary technicalities.
“This assertion makes it mandatory on the part of the courts to carry out their duties diligently with a view to seeing that justice prevails in our society.
“Distinguished participants, it is in this light that you must be effective in your supervision and inspection of the Area/Sharia/Customary Courts as it will go a long way in building public confidence in our courts, fight corruption, laziness and other inadequacies in the judiciary,” Justice Muhammad stated.
He also urged the judicial officers to be bound by the code of conduct in discharging their duties.
Justice Muhammad called on the Directors and Inspectors to pay regular visits to the courts, observe the personnel and facilities and ensure the promotion of substantial justice.
“Your administrative and supervisory roles must and should be used to promote the purposes of ensuring substantial justice devoid of unnecessary technicalities,” he added.
