Farmers in the Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State are counting losses due to the flood that ravaged some bridges and 150 hectares of rice farmlands in some villages.
While inspecting the affected areas on Tuesday, the Executive Chairman of the council, Iliya Habila, expressed concern over the development, which has cut off some communities.
Habila also lamented the destruction of farmlands in villages in the area, saying the development would affect crop production. According to him, the torrential rains in the past few days resulted in overflow of river banks leading to flooding of farms and cutting off of the bridges and culverts.
He assured the farmers and the locals that the Council would forward the matter to relevant authorities at both federal and state governments for further action.
The Chief of Ndit community, Mr. Ezekiel Daniel, said 150 hectares of rice farms were submerged and flooded. He noted that the residents were living in conditions of uncertainty.
The bridges linking Gambar Zugum, Gambar Lere Bar Arewa, Bar Kudu, Gizaki Ndit, Tadnum, Bugun and Dhrbi have been cut off.
