A 33-year-old man, Michael Adeniran, on Wednesday, appeared before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife for allegedly attempting to defile a 12-year-old girl.

The defendant, who was remanded after the presiding Magistrate, A. Oyebadejo, declined his bail application, was arraigned on two counts.

Addressing the court, the police prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, said Adeniran committed the offence on July 18, 2021, on Afeki Opa Road, Ile-Ife.

He explained that Adeniran attempted to defile the minor, and indecently assaulted her when he fondled her.

Osanyintuyi also said the defendant rubbed his genitals on the private parts of the victim, adding that the offences contravened sections 360, 508 and 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His counsel, Philip Fasanmoye, moved an oral application for his bail, which was declined by the court.

Magistrate Oyebadejo ordered that he be remanded in the Ile-Ife Custodial Centre and adjourned the matter till August 2.
