The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has debunked the report that Young lawyers will pay the sum of 80,000 for the registration of 2021 Annual General Conference.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary Dr Rapuluchukwu Nduka, made available to ASKLEGALPALACE.
Nduka said: “The attention of the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association has been drawn to the news making the rounds with regards to the Annual General Conference Fees for Young Lawyers. According to the report, Young Lawyers will be made to pay 80,000 Naira as Conference Fees.”
NBA, therefore, urges members to disregard the said publication, as the Technical Committee on Conference Planning is yet to conclude on the conference fees for the upcoming Annual General Conference.
Also, a member of the Planning Conference Committee, Who is the National Welfare Secretary Kunle Edun in a chat with ASKLEGALPALACE said’ “The News should be disregard. The Committee is yet to make known the fees for the Conference”.
ASKLEGALPALACE recalls that NBA Technical Conference Committee Planning of the Annual General Conference 2021 had during the NBA NEC meeting on 24th of June, 2021, proposed the last of week of October as the date for the 2021 AGC.
As Justification for the proposal, the Chairman of the committee, Ombo Victor Frank-Briggs, said Section 11 of the NBA Constitution empowers NEC to determine when the AGC and the AGM may hold
Furthermore, the Committee proposed that the 2019 Conference Fees be adopted for the 2021 Conference.
According to the Chairman of the Committee, the strike of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, and the Conferences of the various Sections of the NBA which held sequentially have had and are having a pinch on members’ revenue, thus the need to adopt the 2019 Conference Fees.
