The Lagos State Police Command has deployed personnel to beef up security around police formations and correctional facilities in the state to prevent attacks leading to jailbreaks.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Wednesday that in a bid to be proactive and beef up security in and around police formations and correctional centres in the state, the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, summoned area commanders, mobile police commanders and commanders of the tactical operational units to review operational strategies towards forestalling any attack in the state.
He said, “The meeting that was held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, in the conference hall, state headquarters, Ikeja, had in attendance the Deputy Commissioners of Police, Operations, Administration and SCIID, Panti, respectively, the 14 area commanders, police mobile force commanders, commanders of the Rapid Response Squad, task force, Special Squad and Strike Team and the State Intelligence Bureau of the command.
“The CP engaged them in an interactive session to brainstorm on having better security structures in the state and to prevent attacks on police formations, correctional centres and vulnerable places within Lagos State.
“The meeting agreed on many strategies to be adopted, including robust intelligence gathering, surveillance, dividing the state into sectors for easy policing, constant patrol and deployment of personnel to strategic places and multi agency collaboration, among others. The police boss gave clear directives on the full implementation and enforcement of the strategies emplaced to achieve the goals of effective security of the state generally.”
Adejobi also stated that Odumosu hosted the Controller of Correctional Services in the state, Mr Francis Adebisi, on Wednesday, and they deliberated on key issues bordering on fortifying correctional facilities to avert attacks.
He said, “The CP, while deliberating on securing the major correctional centres in Lagos State, promised the controller to sustain the deployment of riot policemen to the correctional centres in the state. The police boss also promised to partner the service and other stakeholders to improve on the criminal justice system in Lagos State.
“The Controller of Correctional Service, Mr Francis Adebisi, commended the efforts of the CP in providing adequate security for all and sundry and promoting sustainable synergy among security agencies in the state. He further eulogised the police boss for his sterling leadership qualities in piloting the affairs of the police command.”
