THE Ogun State Government has threatened industries operating in the state to conduct their businesses in line with the state’s environmental laws or risk sanctions.

The government’s warning came following a protest by residents of Orimerunmu community in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state against a recycling company operating in the area.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Olabode Ojetola, gave the warning while presiding over a peace meeting arising from a protest by the community.

The protesters had complained that the Chinese company’s production lines emit hazardous carbon soot polluting the environment, thereby posing health challenges to their wellbeing.

Ojetola said its officials from the Ministry of Environment had confirmed the complaint of the carbon emission from the Chinese company.

He said the carbon emission, which arose from the use of oil sludge to fire its furnace, had caused havoc to the residents and their property.

Ojetola ordered the company to upgrade its production lines to meet all extant environmental laws of the state in the next four months or face sanctions and possible closure.
