The Edo State Government has convicted 22 sex offenders while 160 others are currently being prosecuted.

Mr Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), who was represented by Charity Ebosele, Director of Citizen Rights Department, Ministry of Justice, Edo State, stated this in Benin on Wednesday at a stakeholders meeting organised by Women’s Aid Collective and Ford Foundation.

Iyamu expressed optimism that the prosecution of the sex offenders would help reduce the menace.

He said, “We have secured the conviction of 22 offenders since September 2020, while about 160 offenders are currently being prosecuted. This will help reduce the problem in our society.’

The Programme Manager of WACOL, Mrs Ijeoma Uzoeshi, said the organisation, in collaboration with the Ford Foundation, was working in seven to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.
