Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 35-year-old man, Obinna Kalu, for allegedly shooting his co-tenant, Adijat Balogun, in her right rib.

The suspect reportedly sneaked into the victim’s room while she was asleep on Sunday and shot her.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a report at the Sabo/Ilupeju divisional police headquarters by one Olayiwola Kareem.

He said the Sabo/Ilupeju Divisional Police Officer, Mustapha Opawoye, led his men to the scene.

Oyeyemi said the team rescued the victim and took her to the state hospital, ijaye, adding that she was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.

He said, “Having carried out the dastardly act, the suspect quickly went into his apartment, packed all his belongings and ran away.

“A massive manhunt was there and then launched for him, and with the cooperation of members of the public, he was eventually arrested on March 16, 2021.

“The suspect initially denied being the person that shot the victim, but when he was asked for the rationale behind his sudden action of taking his belongings and running away from the house, he was unable to argue further. The victim is currently recuperating at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.”

The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the case to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.    ,,
