The Senate Committee on Finance yesterday said it would summon the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) for the general audit of the Treasury Single Account since 2015.
Speaking at the panel’s hearing in Abuja, the chairman of the committee, Senator Olamilekan Adeola said the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General and the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) had also been invited.
Adeola warned revenue-generating agencies against undermining the ongoing probe on Treasury Single Account.
Meanwhile, Executive Chairman, FRC, Victor Muruako, said: “the Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC) is in constant violation of the Fiscal Responsibility Act in utmost humility. From my records, I’d persistently act on them to let us have their financial report from 2016-2019.
But the NSC Executive Secretary, Hassan Bello, appealed to the committee to give him time to get documents of the agency’s remittances.
