The Osun State Government has approved the amendment of the Ikire Chieftaincy Declaration of 1958 on the royal stool of Akire.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, after the State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday.

The government said the move was part of efforts at amicable resolution of the Akire of Ikire kingship tussle.

The Aketula Ruling House had filed a suit against the installation of the current Akire, Oba Olatunde Falabi, on the grounds that he was not entitled to the royal stool in accordance with the provision of the Ikire Chieftaincy Declaration of 1958.

The statement said the amendment to the declaration meant that Aketula was the next ruling house to present a candidate to the throne.
