— Calls On Gov Willie Obiano To Take Proactive Measures
The Nigerian Bar Association, Otuocha Branch has called for a boycotting of all court session in Anambra State on Wednesday, the 17th day of March, 2021 on account of the kidnapping of one of its members, F.A. Onwuachi, Esq.
The announcement which was made by the Chairperson of the branch, Okafor Anthony Uche, Esq, via a press statement titled “MATTER OF URGENCY” and made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, noted that the incident was said to have taken place over four days ago, on the 12th day of March, 2021, at about 7:30 pm along Ezu River/Anaku Road in Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state.
The statement further noted that kidnappers were yet to make any form of contact with the family and loved ones of the victim as at press time, however, the NBA Branch called on the Executive Governor of Anambra State, as well as the relevant security agencies to ensure the release of the victim and their colleague, F.A. Onwuachi, within three [3] days.
“The Nigerian Bar Association Otuocha branch is calling on the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Willie Obiano to take proactive measures to ensure that our colleague returns safe and unites with his family unhurt within 72hours.
We equally call on the security agencies in Anambra State to ensure that our colleague, F.A.Onwuachi who has been in captivity for four days now is released immediately.” the statement reads in part.
The NBA however wondered at the level of the rising level of insecurity in Anambra State, noting that the “state is in shambles in terms of security”.
“We state categorically that Anambra State is in shambles in terms of security. Nobody is safe in Anambra State if a lawyer can be kidnapped and four days thereafter he has not been rescued.
We are calling on all the lawyers in Anambra State to boycott court session in all the courts in Anambra State from Wednesday, 17th March, 2021 until our colleague returns home safe.”
