Landlords displaced as Lagos demolishes Monkey Village
Many residents were displaced on Thursday after some government officers demolished Monkey Village in the Opebi area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the officials stormed the area around 8am and ordered the residents to move their belongings.

That some of the residents, however, lost their property to the demolition.

The displaced residents lamented that they were not given any notice before the exercise.

Our correspondent was told that Information and Community Technology tools, goods, all estimated at millions of naira, were destroyed by the armed officers.

The Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, in a statement on Thursday, denied involvement in the action.

The Public Relations Officer of the agency, Adebayo Taofiq, said, “It is imperative to state categorically that the operatives of the agency were not in any way involved in the said demolition as being circulated.”

Our correspondent learnt that the exercise might have been carried out by officials of the Special Operations Unit, Governor’s Office, on the instruction of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
