AT least, 32 persons have been apprehended and prosecuted in Nasarawa State for allegedly violating the sanitation laws while 27 vehicles and tricycles were also impounded
The Chief Prosecuting Officer, Mobile Court in the state, Mr. Abubakar Muhammed, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Sunday in Lafia, the state capital.
He said, “Their offences range from violating the sanitation regulations and we gave a good notice before the sanitation day but these set of persons did not comply.
“We assigned about 86 Environmental Health Officers to go house to house to carry out evaluation in order to know if the residents were cleaning their environment which was how we were able arrest these defaulters,” he added. Earlier, the state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Musa Ibrahim-Abubakar, revealed that the Federal Government had given approval for the establishment of a waste recycling plant in the state.
According to him, this will go a long way to ensure healthy living for residents of the state and to turn the wastes into other products that can be beneficial to the people.
