The leadership of the assembly had suspended three members, namely: the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Iroju Ogundeji, Mrs. Favour Tomomewo and Mr. Wale Williams, for alleged gross misconduct.
The trio were also among the nine lawmakers who opposed the impeachment notice served on the embattled Deputy Governor of the state, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, during his face off with the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
In protest, the embattled legislators approached the state High Court to challenge their suspension and the court ruled in their favour describing their suspension as illegal, null and void. The judge also ordered the assembly to pay the lawmakers all of outstanding entitlements.
However, the leadership of the House appealed the judgement and filed a motion for stay of execution at the appellate court.
Giving his judgement on the appeal, Justice Omoleye Olabisi dismissed appellant’s prayers as frivolous and ordered that the Assembly should immediately allow the suspended members to resume their legislative functions without hindrance.
Reacting to the judgement, the Deputy Speaker, Iroju Ogundeji said, “What happened today ( Wednesday) showed that hope is still alive in the nation’s judicial system.”
