Inibehe Effiong, Lagos lawyer has called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to release the copies of the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage showing the attack on #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020.
He also wants Certified True Copy (CTC) of the instrument setting up the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) related abuses and Lekki incident, with its terms of reference.
In a letter to the governor, the lawyer said he urgently required the CTC of the instruments and the CCTV records to enable him participate, and properly represent victims at the panel.
“It will also be in the overall public interest for these documents to be released to me timely, as that will enhance public confidence in the panel’s investigation.
“It is my considered view that refusal of this innocuous Freedom Of Information (FOI) request will undermine your commitment to a credible, honest and transparent investigation into abuses by SARS in Lagos and the causes of the infamous attack on #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate, “ he said.
Effiong added that the request would be a good opportunity to honour Sanwo-Olu’s oath of office and advance his pledge to ensure that truth and justice prevail. He stated that Lagos people were watching his response to the application.
Also, he demanded the CTC of the instrument, order or directive under which a revised curfew was declared and imposed in Lagos, which took effect by 9p.m. on October 20, 2020.
