The Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority has called for the provision of judges devoted to real estate matters in order to reduce fraudulent practices in the sector.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Housing, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, said this would also ensure speedy trials of erring real estate agents in the state.
A statement on Thursday said she made the request during a courtesy visit with some principal officials of the agency to the office of the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Kazeem Alogba.
Benson-Awoyinka, according to the statement, said for LASRERA to effectively enforce the law guiding activities in the sector, there was the need to assign courts and judges to all real estate matters.
She appealed to the chief judge to consider the request due to the “huge and incessant acts of fraudulence and quackery practices by some real estate practitioners and the need to expedite hearings on matters that affect real estate business in the state.”
Responding, Justice Alogba promised to assign judges to handle such cases in some jurisdictions in the state.
