The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to open up new towns in Ito-Omu and its adjoining communities in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area in order to fast track the development of the area.
The Acting General Manager of the New Towns Development Authority, Olakunle Aboyeji, spoke on Wednesday at a meeting with residents and community leaders.
Aboyeji said the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had approved the development of new towns within Ito-Omu and its adjoining communities to raise the status and standard of living of the area.
He added that the meeting was to intimate stakeholders of government’s intention and presence within their communities in the next couple of weeks and seek their cooperation for the success of the project.
The Permanent Secretary, Lands Bureau, Mr Bode Agoro, allayed their fear of being exploited by the government.
He noted that some land speculators might put them under pressure for their land, urging them not to succumb but wait for government development plans before taking any step.
The state Surveyor-General, Olutomi Sangowawa, said, “All the mistakes of the past while creating new towns will be avoided if residents work hand in hand with government officials to bring in the needed expertise for the development.”
