The Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lafia Branch, Shikammah Kassam Sheltu, has been appointed as a member of the State Community Policing Committee (SCPC), by the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Bola E. Longe, Esq., Psc.
The inauguration which took place on Thursday at the State Police Command Headquarters, Lafia, had the other 10 appointees.
The Chairman, Shikammah is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing a cross-section of Legal Practitioners which comprises NBA Lafia and NBA Keffi Branches.
Also Judges of the High court, Customary Court of Appeal and Kadis of Sharia Court Appeal, Magistrates, Judges of Area Courts, Judiciary Staff, and all other persons related thereto.
Some other roles of the State Community Policing Committee (SCPC) include but not limited to:
1. SCPC manages and coordinates the State Community Policing programme in Nasarawa State.
2. The SCPC fosters security awareness and monitors progress of community Policing.
3. To develop or unveil new approaches to community Policing based challenges, success stories and the need connected thereto.
4. The SCPC meets at least once a month (and can convene an emergency meeting as the need arises) with all the LGA Chairmen, Overseers of Development Areas and DPOs in the State in attendance.
5. SCPC shall also convene a general meeting at the end of every quarter to review the Community Policing activities in the LGAs in the State among other roles.
