Borno Court Records First Online/Virtual Court Sitting
It is no news that the event of the Covid19 pandemic has changed how the world is being viewed. These changes are also evident in Nigeria as the citizens have adapted to a new way of life caused by the pandemic
Consequently, the Borno State High Court has commenced online sitting. High Court No. 13 records such first sitting presided over by Justice Fadawu Umaru wherein the accused person in State V Aliyu was found not guilty of culpable Homicide not punishable with death
The Chief Judge of the State who monitored the online sitting said:
“our aim has never been just because of COVID. Even under normal circumstances there is no need to delay cases because of just simply somebody appearing in the court to open his mouth to talk. That, he can do from anywhere in the world.”
He further said:
“Now that Covid has brought that reality, we are hopeful that these changes will now come first and we will show you what we can do. We can end up make it a rule even that we would not allow just for the sake of coming to talk, we would not even allow anybody to come. You have to do it online.”
The Borno State Judiciary said the Covid-19 Pandemic did not come to them by surprise and are fully equipped for the dispensation of justice without delay.
