AN Adamawa State mobile court has convicted 21 residents arrested for violating the movement restriction order put in place by the government to check the spread of coronavirus.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had on Friday announced a total lockdown of the state, after the state recorded its first case of coronavirus.
On Monday, 50 persons arrested by the state task force were taken before the mobile court created to try violators of the lockdown order.

Among the 50 alleged violators, 21 were convicted by the court while 29 were discharged and acquitted.

The magistrate, Daniel John, sentenced the 21 convicted to two hours of community service each.

“This exercise is not to punish the citizens but it is to protect ourselves, the state and the country at large,” the magistrate said.
