Ogun residents flee as suspected COVID-19 patient abandoned at hospital
Some residents and family members of patients at the Ogun state General  Hospital in  Ijaye, Abeokuta, on Saturday evening fled  after a  suspected COVID-19 patient was allegedly  abandoned at the   hospital gate.

Our correspondent learnt that a commercial motorcyclist  took a sick  man to the hospital and dropped him  by the gate and sped off.

The patient however caused a stir when he collapsed while walking into the hospital.

He was said to have told the medical workers in the hospital that he came from Lagos and had been experiencing some coronavirus symptoms.

The  development forced many people  including those who brought their sick relations to the hospital to flee.

It was further learnt  that some nurses and doctors on duty were reported to have run away.

The patient was believed to have  contracted coronavirus and brought to the hospital for treatment.

When our correspondent visited the hospital,  some officials, who spoke on condition anonymity,  said they had called the Nigeria   Centre for Disease Control to handle the situation .

The  state Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker,   had yet  to  reply  to  the  text messages  sent to her phone as of the time of filing this report.

However, an  official  of the hospital   told our correspondent that they were making efforts to handle the situation.
