Governor El-Rufai tests positive for coronavirus
Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai has tested positive for coronavirus.

“Earlier this week, I submitted a sample for the Covid-19 test,” El-Rufai said in a video posted on Twitter on Saturday.

“The result came in this evening, and I regret to say that it is positive.”

The governor said he is already in self-isolation as required by the case management guidelines of the NCDC for someone that is not showing symptoms.

He said his deputy Dr Hadiza Balarabe will continue to handle the control of the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

“I wish to appeal to the people of Kaduna State to continue to closely observe the preventive measures already announced,” El-Rufai said.

El-Rufai is the second Nigerian governor to test positive for COVID-19.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on 24th of March tested positive for coronavirus after his contact with Mohammed Atiku Abubakar, son of the former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, who is also tested positive for the virus.

The chief of staff to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is another high-profile Nigerian that has tested positive for the virus that has killed, at least, 30,003, as of 1900 GMT on Saturday, according to AFP.

Over 520, 000 persons have so far been infected worldwide.

As at 04:00 pm 28th March, 89 confirmed cases of Covid-19 has been reported in Nigeria with 1 death.

Lagos has 59 cases with three discharged. Abuja has 14 confirmed cases. Ogun and Oyo State both have three cases each.

Enugu, Edo and Bauchi State all have two cases each while Osun, Ekiti, Rivers and Benue State have all recorded one case each.

Saturday makes it a month since Nigeria confirmed its first case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos State on Thursday, February 28.

The first index case, an Italian businessman, and two other persons have since been discharged.
