A Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, remanded a 22-year-old man, Fahad Alasan, in a correctional facility till March 31, 2020, for allegedly threatening to kidnap one Habibu Shehu.
The police alleged that Alasan of the Danmaliki community in the Bakori Local Government Area of the state had on January 25, 2020, called Shehu, of the same address, on the telephone and threatened to kidnap him if he failed to pay a ransom of N250,000.
It was learnt that Shehu reported the threat at the Bakori Divisional Police Headquarters and the phone line was tracked, leading to Alasan’s arrest.
The police told the court that Alasan confessed to have made the threat.
He was subsequently charged with criminal intimidation and threat to kidnap.
According to the police, the offences are contrary to sections 374 and 244 of the Penal Code, Law of Katsina State.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello, told the court that investigation was in progress on the case and requested a new date when the case would come up for mention.
The presiding magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, granted the request and adjourned the case till March 31, 2020, for mention.
She directed that Alasan should be remanded in a correctional facility till then.
