NJC announces 33 persons for High Court judges, others |
The National Judicial Council on Thursday announced a list of 33 persons it recommended for various judicial appointments, including six heads of court.The council, in a statement by its Director of Information, Mr. Soji Oye, said three of the nominees for the six heads of court were for Chief Judges of three states and Grand Khadis of Sharia Court of Appeal of three other states
The rest comprised recommendations for 26 judicial officers for states High Court and one Kadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal.
The statement said the NJC under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, at its meeting held Tuesday and Wednesday, “considered the list of candidates presented by its interview committee.”
Oye said the council, at the meeting “resolved to recommend to the governors of Anambra, Kebbi, Cross River, Zamfara, Ogun, Osun, Rivers, Imo, Sokoto, Ekiti and Niger states, 33 successful candidates for appointment as Heads of Courts and other Judicial Officers in Nigeria.”
He stated that all the recommended candidates “are expected to be sworn-in after approval by their respective State Governors and confirmation by the respective State House of Assembly.”
The nominees included Justice Onochie Manasseh Anyachebelu recommended as Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Mohammed Suleiman Ambursa, as Chief Judge of Kebbi State and
Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme as Chief Judge of Cross River State.
They also include Kadi Umaru Muhammad Gusau recommended as Grand Kadi of Sharia Court of Appeal, Zamfara Stat; Justice Mobolaji Ayodele Ojo as President Customary Court of Appeal, Ogun State; and Justice Foluke Awolalu as President, Court of Appeal Ogun State.
The NJC also recommended four for appointment as judges of Rivers State High Court.
They are, Stephens Dirialakeibama Jumbo, Chuku Mark Onyema, Ngbor-Abina Lemea and Fibresima Atili.
It recommended Olufunmilayo O. Stanley and Olukemi Olusola Yetunde Oresanya as Ogun State High Court judges.
Seven persons recommended as IMO State High Court judges are, Onyeka Vincent Ifeanyichukwu, Leweanya Kechinyere A., Victoria Chinyere Isiguzo,Vivian O. B. Ekezie, Eze Nonye Eke, Ihuoma Grace Chukwunyere, and Ibeawuchi Edith Chinyere.
Three, comprising, Aminu Garba Sifawa, Mohammed Mohammed, and Raliya Uthman Muhammad were recommended as judges of Sokoto State High Court.
The NJC also recommended Obafemi Fasanmi as a judge of Ekiti State, and the trio of Salisu Alhassan Majidadi, Binta Bawa, and Danladi Ahmad as Niger State High Court judges.
While it recommended Bello Jega as a Kadi of Kebbo State Sharia Court of Appeal, it recommended Amadi Ericonda as a judge of the Rivers State Customary Court of Appeal.
The council also recommended Michael Kolawole Peters, Anthony Olusesan Araba and Adebisi Olusola Femi-Segun for appointment as judges of Ogun State High Court.
It also recommended Obichere Ijeoma Josephine and Nze Ifeanyi Tennyson as judges of the Imo State Customary Court of Appeal.
