The Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, arraigned a 22-year-old suspected pickpocket, Abeeb Oladimeji, a resident of 22, Odoru Street, Obale in Ikorodu area of Lagos, who made away with a cell phone worth N45, 000, before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for conspiracy and theft.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge. The Prosecutor, Mary Ajiteru, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 21 at 7:30p.m. on Isi Kalu Street, Ikorodu. She said Oladimeji and two others at large stole a Tecno Spark 2 from one Afolabi Abulmalik, alleging the defendant removed the phone from Abdulmalik’s pocket and passed it to one of his accomplices, adding: “When the complainant noticed that the defendant’s hand went in and out of his pocket, he held on to him and raised alarm.”
The alleged offences, she said, contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which provides for three years and two years imprisonments, respectively.The Magistrate, Mr. O. M. Dawodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N30, 000, with two sureties in like sum.He adjourned the case until December 19 for mention.
