Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have busted two more illegal rehabilitation centres in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Located at Limanchi Corner and Marmara, all in Zaria Council, the two illegal facilities were discovered during a sting operation.
Muktar Aliyu, who operated one of the centres, claimed that the inmates were brought in by their parents.
He, however, denied maltreating the inmates.
At the centre, known as ‘Malam Aliyu Mai Adakan Salatul Fatih’in Zaria, 11 inmates in ankle and wrist chains, mostly men and children, were rescued.
Parading the owners of the centres, the Deputy Commandant of NSCDC, Nnegha Onyema, disclosed that three inmates died as result of unbearable conditions at the facilities.
