Stop parading suspects publicly, lawyer warn security agencies
  • Parading of suspects by security agencies illegal, unconstitutional
A human rights lawyer, Barr. Bolaji Ogungbemi and the Executive Director of Cleen Foundation, Dr. Benson Olugbuo and has decried the parading of suspects by the officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and other security agencies in the country.

They noted this yesterday in Abuja at the official launch of the FCT Resource Centre on a project “Promoting Accountability and Transparency in the Administration of Criminal Justice system in Nigeria.”

According to them, parading of suspects by security agencies is illegal and unconstitutional due to the fact that the law provides that the dignity of the individual must be respected.

The Director noted: “The law is very clear that you are innocent not until you are proved guilty by a law court of competent jurisdiction.

“What happens in our country is that when you are arrested they assume that you are guilty.
